2027 Tax Brackets Calculator (2027 vs 2026)

Updated October 2026

Every year the IRS raises the tax brackets and the standard deduction for inflation, so the same pay is taxed a little less. This calculator shows the 2027 brackets next to the official 2026 ones and works out your federal income tax for both years. The 2027 figures are projections based on the official inflation formula. We will switch to the IRS numbers the day they are released, usually in October or November.

Quick answer: The 2027 standard deduction is projected at $16,600 single, $33,200 married and $24,950 head of household (2026: $16,100, $32,200, $24,150). The 22% bracket for single filers starts at $52,026 of taxable income. On $75,000 a single filer pays about $280 less federal tax in 2027.

A raise in 2027 is not pushed into a higher bracket just by inflation, because the brackets move up too. If your pay grows faster than inflation, part of the raise can still land in a higher bracket.

When will the IRS release the 2027 brackets?

The IRS publishes the next year's brackets, standard deduction and many other limits in a revenue procedure each fall. The 2026 figures came out on October 9, 2025. The 2027 figures are expected in October or November 2026. The projections here use the same formula the IRS uses: the change in the chained consumer price index (C-CPI-U) over the twelve months ending in August. One month of 2025 CPI data was never published, so the official figures could differ slightly.

What the brackets mean

Tax brackets are marginal. Only the part of your taxable income inside each band is taxed at that band's rate. Moving into the 22% bracket does not make all your income taxed at 22%, only the dollars above the line. Your effective rate, the tax divided by your income, is always lower than your top bracket.

How this calculator works

It subtracts pre-tax deductions, the standard deduction (plus the extra amount and the $6,000 senior deduction for people 65+, which phases out by 6% of income above $75,000, or $150,000 married) and applies each year's brackets. Income is the same in both years, so the difference shows the effect of the inflation adjustment alone. Credits, itemized deductions, capital gains rates and state taxes are not included.
